If you are new to dreadlock hair extensions, here is some basic info you may be wondering. Also, see links for color options, picture gallery, and tips/tricks.
1. What are they made of?
They are handmade from a soft synthetic blend of kanekalon and afrelle fiber. Much like high quality wigs. They are hypoallergenic as well as flame resistant.
2. How are they made?
I personally have been making them for 15+ years and wear them as well. They are made with a 5 step method which includes crocheting and heat sealing with slick tapered pointy bottoms.
3. How are they put into my hair?
They are braided into your natural hair in sections about the size of a dime each. They are non damaging and can be worn over and over again.
Clip ins are easy put in like you would other clip in extensions and they have a soft silicone strip to secure in place easier.
4. How long can I leave them in?
When braided in, they can be left in for approx 4 to 6 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows as well as how often you tie your hair up. That will determine how snug they stay. But be assured they will NOT fall out.
5. How are they secured?
I personally prefer a braid called a blanket braid, which spirals around your natural hair and one side of the dreadlock and then it is fastened with a rubber elastic band. I only use rubber bands because plastic ones will break down quickly and snap. We don't want that.
6. How many dreads will i need?
Depending on the thickness of dreads that you want (average being 0.8cm), you'd need about 50 double ended dreads to fill your head. 60 if you have a large head.
Partial sets depend on the look you are going for of course.
7. What is the difference between double and single ended dreads?
Simply put, a single ended dread is a dread with a little loop at the top. They are best used for partial sets where you just want to add a few dreads as accents in with your natural hair.
Doubles are essentially 2 dreads in one. One extra long dread thats braided into your hair at the center point...making 2 dreads (2 ends). They are best suited for full sets because they fill in the spaces between dreads wonderfully, as well as give perfect volume.
8.What are clip in dreads?
Clip ins are single ended dreads with a professional hair clip attached to add a partial dread look or just to try them out. They are available in single, double, and quad clips.
9. Can i choose any colors i want?
Yes. I have a color chart and various colors not even on the chart. So if you have something in mind, let me know and I can do my best to make it happen.
10. How much does it cost?
Cost varies depending on the length desired and the amount of work involved. A full set starts at $300CA for 18 inches.
11. Can i put them in myself?
Absolutley. I can link you to various Youtube tutorials and you can easily use a simple common braid if that is what you are most comfortable with.
I am also available for installs if you are in my local area.
12. How do i wash them etc?
Please see my link to care and tips on this page where i go into detail on this and much more.
